Fear of a Blackwell Planet

It’s been an absurdly long time since we’ve posted some Clamor-specific news. What have we been up to? Well, Jason has been perfecting a new invention that would remove Ohio Governor candidate Kenneth Blackwell’s head from his ass just long enough for him to hear that “his services are no longer needed in this state.” Jen has been industriously criss-crossing the country for a mix of business and pleasure, and the rest of the Clamor editors have been sitting by their computers waiting for your pitches for the Fall issue (the deadline was yesterday, for those of you who were sleeping). Just to give you an idea of what we’re dealing with here in Ohio during a mid-term election year — a number of candidates have been airing commercials about how tough they are on abortion and how much they hate gays and lesbians. Kill me, now.

Clamor Summer Issue About to Drop (Science)
In a week or so, we’ll be mailing the new Summer 2006 issue to subscribers. We know you’re on that list because you realize the value of supporting independent media as much as you realize the convenience of having Clamor dropped in your box weeks before it hits the ’stands (as we call it in the biz — actually, nobody calls it that). If you’re still not a subscriber, you can spare yourself the public embarrassment and confidentially subscribe now. We’ll keep your secret safe. Check out the cover of the new issue here.

Crazy M-Fers!
Remember in 2004 when we thought it would be a good idea to hold a nationwide music festival that went down on the same night around the country? Brilliant. It almost killed some of the organizers to make it happen. Well, we’ve had some time to forget what a pain in the ass it was, and we’re doin’ it again on October 21, 2006. What’s that? You say your city deserves to host a Clamor Music Festival show to benefit a local media project? Get at us! Visit the official CMF page for info about how to get your locale on the map. No city is too big. No township too small.

Your Art Here
Do you fancy yourself the artistic type? Clamor is hosting a t-shirt design contest and your art could be worn, washed, and spun dry by Clamor enthusiasts around the world. Contact jason_at_clamormagazine.org for details. Deadline for shirt designs is June 1, 2006, so we can unveil the winning design while the summer sun is high in the sky.

An Un-Missable Weekend
Don’t forget to check out the best Allied Media Conference line-up since it was started in 1999. You have to be here

Good Morning, Tucson!
After 14 years in NW Ohio (and 32 years in Ohio overall) Clamor co-publisher Jason Kucsma (that’s me) is moving to Tucson, Arizona to set up a Clamor lemonade stand while he works on a graduate degree in Information Resources and Library Science. If you would like to tell Jason about your friend who moved there four years ago or would like to volunteer some time at the new Clamor satellite office, please drop him a line at jason@clamormagazine.org. Any letters referencing how “it’s a dry heat” will be immediately discarded — as will letters asking Jason if he knows it’s hot there.
