Resident Genius/Howard Zinn Release

Independent rock group Resident Genius has announced the release of their latest CD “You Can’t Blow Up a Social Relationship,” on Thick Records. The group, hailing from Springfield, Illinois, has included six original songs, alongside excerpts from the Howard Zinn archives.

The current social and political climate has provided Resident Genius with material that marks a striking departure from the usual punk-pop fodder. “Dover Air Force Base,” for example, begins with the image of a woman waiting for a plane carrying a soldier’s remains (”the process starts again, the bar codes and registration, to avoid a situation like what happened to John Quinn”), while the soldier who narrates “Needles” anticipates indifference from the administration and public he/she is fighting for (”I’ll send letters back home but will they be proud to call me one of their own?”). Selected tracks are available for download at residentgenius.org or Pure Volume.

Proceeds from the release will benefit Radio Free Maine and Alternative Radio in Boulder, Colorado.
