So, You Wanna Steal an Election?
Kerry may have conceded a loss in this year’s election, but the spectre of the illegitimacy is once again lurking around Bush’s second term as commander-in-chief.
Despite a virtual mainstream media blackout on the subject, investigations are taking place around the country (particularly in battleground states like Florida, Ohio, and New Mexico) into allegations of voter irregularities and voter suppression. While the final count for Ohio is still being conducted, we know, for example, that in Cuyahoga County (in Ohio) comparisons between the registered number of voters and actual votes cast in last week’s election show almost 98,000 more votes cast than actual voters registered.
Bev Harris, of Black Box Voting , believes, “that fraud took place in the 2004 election through electronic voting machines. We base this on hard evidence, documents obtained in public records requests, inside information, and other data indicative of manipulation of electronic voting systems. What we do not know is the specific scope of the fraud. We are working now to compile the proof, based not on soft evidence — red flags, exit polls — but core documents obtained by Black Box Voting in the most massive Freedom of Information action in history.”
The League of Pissed Off Voters is working with national and regional leaders and organizations to conduct public hearings this weekend in Columbus to draw attention to the need for more investigations.

In breaking news, there is a nationwide campaign to demand recounts in precincts in Ohio where the most anomalies have occurred. Help America Recount claims, “using a little-known provision in Ohio law, any five Ohioans who did not vote for the winning candidate can file for recounts. In Florida, citizens can file to contest the election, county by county. Black Box Voting researchers are helping to identify key counties with the worst anomalies, for hand counts and other audits, to detect computer intrusions and vote count discrepancies.”

In added news, Bev Harris recently won a settlement against Diebold in California. Diebold was trying to end a lawsuit that alleges that the company made false claims about the security of their voting machines.
