The Klamath Tribes Struggle On
In a Web exclusive for our new International issue, Tara Lohan writes eloquently about a struggle for indigenous land rights in the Pacific Northwest, reminding us that struggles between nations aren’t something that happens only out there — across recognized borders — but are matters that require us to think about the very notions of borders, nations, sovereignty:
“The Klamath Basin of southern Oregon and northern California is a place of shifting borders and uncertain boundaries. It is a place where a war between two nations has been a war of geography, with maps wielded like weapons.”
