Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Recognizes an Emerging Rival
Because I assume our esteemed co-publisher Mr. Kucsma will be too modest to do it, let me congratulate him and everyone at Clamor on receiving a nod from that bastion of crackpot, right-wing news and opinion the Washington Times. The Times, a must-read among the right-wing since the Reagan Administration, was begun by the Rev. Sun Yung-Moon in the early ’80’s and acted as a sort-of proto-Fox by combining mean right-wing tone with neo-con ‘ideas.’ Charter members, in the other words, of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy. And prescient ones at that.
So we should take as high praise indeed that our modest contribution to the emerging left-wing echo chamber should merit the notice of such august right-wing forebearers. In a story entitled ‘Counterculture Protests are Big Business‘ (as if working for the right-wing media makes you eligible for food stamps…), the Washington Times spoke to Jason on the streets of New York about using foundation money to realize political goals. Using that kinda money for such purposes is, of course, exactly what the reactionaries have been doing since the ’50’s so we should view it as a compliment of the highest order that they are expressing some, uh, concern about success stories like Clamor.

p.s. maybe I’m nuts, but I’m more jazzed about this than any Utne Reader recognition…

Wow, what a *great* piece. Usually I have to poke and prod to decipher the propoganda of news articles such as this, but this one was so wonderfully transparent in its method and goals. I didn’t even have to Google the Center for Consumer Freedom as I already know about that one. It’s so fuckin’ lazy for them to quote from that group. There are so many corporate-funded think tanks out there. The Center for Consumer Freedom mostly just lobbys to kill things like consumer protection, health, safety, and anti-smoking legislation. To quote from that group is just plain lazy. It’s also a bit ironic to get a quote about underhanded funding from a group that is completely based on underhanded funding. I love how Planned Parenthood and the ACLU refused to talk to the Times. It makes it seem like they’re hiding someing, when in fact those groups simply hate the Times for the scumbags that they are.
