We’re Not Kidding. It Really Was Stolen

Jesse Jackson was in Ohio yesterday talking up the recount. Considering the excellent job he did calming everyone down in Florida in 2000, that makes me nervous. But he is bringing up some interesting calculations based on comparing Kerry’s vote total to that of C. Ellen Connally, an African-American Democratic candidate from Cleveland for Ohio Chief Justice. Even though down-ballot races usually involve fewer votes than the much more prominent races at the top of the ticket, Connally received 257,000 more votes than Kerry across the state.

And not a moment too soon, some smart statistician has shown exactly how Ohio Board of Elections machine allocation accomplished Kerry-voter suppression in Franklin county, which includes Columbus. Someone at the Board of Elections should be put in jail for that.

The Cincinnati Enquirer recently learned that the media lockout in Warren County was planned over a week before the election.

And, before you get all in my face about how Bush won the popular vote, can someone please explain how Wyoming saw 106% voter turnout in the presidential election? There were 232,396 registered voters on 10/22/04. 245,789 ballots were cast on election day.

The Secretary of State of Wyoming says it has to do with same-day registrations and passion for hometown boy Dick Cheney [download the press release as a pdf]. I figured it had to do with their incredible love for democracy.

I just read another article about voter suppression in Ohio which compared turn out percentages over the last twenty years.

Where is Michael Moore when it counts? Too busy plugging his Barbara Walters appearance to publicly demand a recount?
