Your Goss is as Good as Mine
I’ve been meaning to post this for a couple days now, so I hope you don’t think this is old news. Last week filmmaker Michael Moore (you don’t know him? he made a movie a long time ago called Roger and Me — great film), released some new footage on his website, michaelmoore.com. It’s a portion of an interview he did with Porter Goss for another film he did called Fahrenheit 9/11 (you might have heard of it) on whether or not Goss would be willing (or qualified) to step up and take the position of the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Throughout the short clip, Goss talks about the myriad ways he is not qualified to head the CIA: no foreign language skills, no cultural background, and limited knowledge of technology. So what’s the deal? That doesn’t sound like the appropriate response to the perennial hiring question of “What would you say is your biggest weakness?” Some suggest that the nomination (subject to Senate approval) is a purely political move by GW Bush. Read or listen to more about this on Democracy Now!.
Incidentally, in talking with Michael Moore’s agent, I learned that there is plenty of amazing and revealing footage that had to be edited out of the film for time. It should be interesting to see what Moore releases in the next couple months as we ramp up toward the elections. Maybe he has some footage of GW joking around the White House pretending to push the button shreiking “yee haw!!”
